meet some of our makers

In our Workington pottery studio, creativity is at the centre of everything we do.

Our makers are supported to explore their own styles while learning traditional techniques, from hand-building to glazing and finishing.

Stacey

Stacey has been coming to West House Pottery for two years. She enjoys keeping busy and trying new techniques, especially when making plant pots and plates. Away from the wheel, Stacey is passionate about fitness and staying active.

“I like doing different things and keeping busy.”

David

David With eight years of experience at the studio, David has worked across every part of the pottery process. He enjoys using his hands to shape and form clay, and takes pride in every item he creates, from mugs to bowls. A lifelong Carlisle United fan, you’ll often find him talking football during break times.

“I like making things. I enjoy every part of it.”

Leah

Leah Leah has been a regular face at the pottery for over two years. She loves working with others and brings a warm, friendly vibe to every session. Her favourite pieces to make are mugs, and she’s always up for a laugh while getting creative.

“I love coming to see everyone and creating all our pottery pieces.”

Luka

Luka brings great energy and humour to the studio. Having joined two and a half years ago, he’s now confident in working across all types of ceramic pieces. He loves spending time with his friends while learning new skills and is known for always having a great joke ready.

“All of it is fun. I like learning how to make everything.”

meet some of our growers

The growing team at Grow West bring care, and commitment to everything they do, whether it’s planting seeds, watering beds, or picking the freshest veg for that week’s box deliveries.

Luke

Luke is a core part of the Grow West team and takes on everything from composting to pruning. He’s passionate about every plant in the garden and is especially fond of his trusty wheelbarrow. His favourite season is summer, when he can enjoy his juice and lunch in the sun.

“A sunflower represents me — it’s bright like me!”

Ken

Ken proudly holds the title of Head Chicken Keeper. He looks after the hens with great care, making sure they have clean water, food, and the occasional treat. Ken also loves working with flowers and roses are his favourite.

“I love the spring – not too hot, not too cold, and all the flowers start to bloom.”

Peter

Peter helps keep Grow West blooming. He’s known for his attention to detail, especially when it comes to sweeping paths and watering beds. His favourite plant? The vibrant purple crocus. Peter’s calm presence helps keep the space tidy and thriving.

“Fuchsias are tall and bold – just like me.”
